Castle Rock
"A small rock. A lot of history."[1]
Castle Rock (German: Steinburg[2]) is an island in west Stalburg that is a home to the Castle Stalburg and a residential neighborhood.
Overview[edit | edit source]
The island consist of 6 streets connecting the residences - the Keep street, Bailey alley, Keep alley, Motte street, Gatehouse alley and the Castle alley.
A single main road is going through the island - the Castle Rock road - connecting Point Elias and the Foundry district. On the western side that road crosses a drawbrigde with the control booth located on the island.
On the island itself there are 37 residential buildings, 2 bars, an Alcox alcohol store, a Hostel, the Retired Fisherman restaurant, a Prism grocery store, the Marko's Battery Store, the Castle Rock Fishing Museum and the Castle Stalburg. The island also has two dockyards, one of which is abandoned and one of which serves as a guest harbour.
History[edit | edit source]
Once the settlement of Stalburg has been founded in the year 1266[3] around the current area of the Old Town, the Castle Rock island was chosen as a strategic location for the construction of the Castle Stalburg to protect the settlement.[4] The first fortification built was the keep, while the rest of the castle was built around it, of which the construction is estimated to have taken at least 50 years.[5]
In the 1400s the Castle Stalburg was abandoned after the city been moved to the current location of city center and new forts were built to cover the locations of the city.[4]
In the modern times, the remainder of the island has been turned into a residential neighborhood and dockyards. Archeological studies took place at the Castle Stalburg to determine its history and eventually the castle has been converted into a tourist attraction.
After Xeander Berg had escaped the S.N.W Bunker on August 9th, 1986, Jeff Walter paid a large sum of money to one of the residents of the island to allow Xeander Berg live in hiding in their basement.
